What is poly overlay film used for in garment CNC cutting? Poly overlay film is placed over the top of the fabric spread on a CNC cutting table. When the vacuum is activated, the film creates an airtight seal over the fabric stack — holding all plies flat and immovable while the cutting blade passes through. Without it, the vacuum cannot hold the fabric effectively and cut accuracy deteriorates.
What is the difference between virgin and non-virgin poly overlay film? Pure virgin film is made from new, unprocessed polyethylene — giving it consistent 20 micron thickness, crystal-clear transparency, and zero impurities that could cause micro-tears. Non-virgin film uses recycled polyethylene — it is more economical for high-volume daily production but may have slight variations in clarity. Both provide effective vacuum coverage.
What width poly overlay film do I need? You need a film roll that is at least as wide as your CNC cutting table. We supply custom roll widths to match your machine exactly — contact us with your cutting table width and we will supply the correct roll.
